Borehole Wells

Borehole WellsImagine not having access to clean and safe water for a day in your life for cooking, drinking, washing, or even bathing. According to the World Health Organization and UNICEF, 2.1 billion people around the world face this challenge and struggle every day.
Somali Development Organisation has been supporting communities in Somalia over the past 5 years. We have provided many Water projects over the years, to communities who do not have access to clean and safe drinking water. Please help us to make a difference in the lives of the communities that we help.
Building a well for communities that do not have access to clean and safe drinking water can be a life changing. Recurrent droughts have had a devastating impact on a lot of communities. SDO plans to build 2 borehole wells 30km apart from each other in Hiiraan Region, which will provide safe drinking water to an estimated 150,000 desperate people. The wells will be a lifeline to these communities and reduce the spread of water-borne diseases. With your support, we can help thousands of families survive terrible droughts that have a devastating impact on these communities.

Approximately 10,000 -20,000 children and women travel daily, on average three to four hours per day just searching for water. Once they find water it is often unsafe for drinking or cleaning. Carrying water for such long distances results in injuries to their backs, necks, and shoulders.

Long-Term Solution

The borehole wells that SDO plans to drill are suitable for remote rural areas, where electricity and access roads are not available. The borehole wells will be powered by solar panels, and only require minimal maintenance. This is a lifetime project which will help free communities for their water needs.

Please Donate. Your generosity is what helps us reach out to these communities.
